legal との違い
legal は主に「法律で許されている」という意味です。legitimate は法律面だけでなく、「理由がもっともだ」「信頼できる」「正当だ」という広い意味で使えます。

形容詞の legitimate は最後が /mət/ のように弱く発音されます。動詞では最後が /meɪt/ になります。ただし動詞用法はフォーマルで、日常では legitimize がよく使われます。
