使い方

• interrupt と interruption の違い

  interrupt は動詞で「さえぎる・中断させる」、interruption は名詞で「中断・じゃま」です。例: Please don't interrupt me.（さえぎらないでください） / Sorry for the interruption.（中断してすみません）

• 丁寧に割り込むときの表現

  会話や会議で丁寧に入るときは、Sorry for the interruption, but ... や I apologize for the interruption, but ... がよく使われます。日常会話では Sorry to interrupt, but ... も自然です。

• 数えられる名詞

  interruption は数えられる名詞として an interruption, several interruptions のように使えます。また、一般的な「中断なしで」は without interruption と無冠詞でよく使います。

よくある間違い

• 誤: Sorry for interrupt.

  正: Sorry for the interruption.

  for の後ろには名詞が必要です。interrupt は動詞なので、名詞 interruption を使います。別表現として Sorry to interrupt. も自然です。

• 誤: There was many interruption during the class.

  正: There were many interruptions during the class.

  many の後は複数形にし、主語が複数なので was ではなく were を使います。

• 誤: Please continue without any interrupt.

  正: Please continue without any interruption.

  ここでは「中断」という名詞が必要なので interruption を使います。interrupt は動詞です。
