使い方

• comparable to と comparable with

  どちらも使えます。comparable to は「〜に匹敵する・似ている」という意味でよく使われ、comparable with は「〜と比較できる」という意味でやや使われやすい傾向があります。ただし実際には重なる場合も多いです。

• comparative との違い

  comparable は「比較できる、同程度の」という形容詞です。comparative は「比較の、比較級の」という意味で、文法や研究方法について使うことが多いです。

よくある間違い

• 誤: This product is comparable than that one.

  正: This product is comparable to that one.

  comparable は than ではなく、ふつう to または with を使います。than は better than や cheaper than のような比較級で使います。

• 誤: The two prices are compareable.

  正: The two prices are comparable.

  つづりは compareable ではなく comparable です。e が落ちます。

• 誤: The results are same comparable.

  正: The results are comparable.

  comparable だけで「同程度で比較できる」という意味になります。same を前に置くと不自然です。
