使い方

• comparison of / between / with / to

  comparison of A and B は「AとBの比較」。comparison between A and B も自然です。in comparison with A または in comparison to A は「Aと比べて」という意味で使えます。

• compare は動詞、comparison は名詞

  「比べる」は compare、「比較」は comparison です。例: We compared the results. / The comparison was useful.

• no comparison の意味

  There is no comparison は「比較できないほど違う」「比べものにならない」という意味です。単に『比較がない』という意味ではないことが多いです。

よくある間違い

• 誤: The comparison between A to B is interesting.

  正: The comparison between A and B is interesting.

  between を使う場合は between A and B と言います。to ではなく and を使います。

• 誤: In comparison of last year, sales increased.

  正: In comparison with last year, sales increased.

  「〜と比べて」は in comparison with または in comparison to を使います。in comparison of は不自然です。

• 誤: We made comparison of the two products.

  正: We made a comparison of the two products.

  comparison は数えられる名詞として使うことが多く、単数なら a comparison のように冠詞が必要です。
