• importantより「目立つ・注目に値する」感じ

  notable は単に重要というだけでなく、「注意して見る価値がある」「他より目立つ」というニュアンスがあります。important は重要性そのものを広く表します。

• notable for の形がよく使われる

  be notable for ... で「…で有名である、…が注目すべき点である」という意味になります。例: The town is notable for its beautiful gardens.

• 名詞の notable は硬め

  a notable や notables は「著名人、名士」という意味ですが、日常会話では famous people や important people のほうが自然なことが多いです。

よくある間違い

• 誤: She is notable to her kindness.

  正: She is notable for her kindness.

  「…で注目される、有名である」は notable for を使います。notable to はこの意味では普通使いません。

  正: This is very notable news.

  news は不可算名詞なので a を付けません。notable は形容詞として news を説明します。
