形容詞と動詞で発音が違う
形容詞の intimate は最後が /mət/ のように弱く発音され、「親しい、個人的な」という意味です。動詞の intimate は最後が /meɪt/ で、「ほのめかす」という意味になります。

intimate friend は「親友に近い、とても親しい友人」という意味です。ただし intimate は文脈によって恋愛的・性的な近さを連想させることもあるため、普通の友達には close friend のほうが無難な場合があります。
