立ち向かう、向き合う 問題・困難・怖いことなどを避けずに受け止めて、対処しようとすること。
問い詰める、詰め寄る 相手の行動や発言について、直接会って強く質問したり非難したりすること。
直面させる、突きつける 人に事実・証拠・難しい状況などを見せて、避けられないようにすること。よく「confront someone with evidence」の形で使います。

使い方

問題には confront the problem
confront は「避けずに向き合う」という意味が強い動詞です。problem, issue, fear, reality, challenge など、困難なものとよく一緒に使います。

人に対して使うと強い響き
confront someone は「相手に直接言う」「詰め寄る」という強い表現です。単に話し合うなら talk to someone や discuss the problem with someone の方が柔らかいです。

受け身 be confronted with
be confronted with は「〜に直面する」という定型表現です。突然問題が目の前に現れた、対処が必要になった、という感じを表します。
