確かめる、突き止める 調査・確認・質問などによって、事実や情報をはっきり知ること。日常会話よりも、ややフォーマルな文書・仕事・ニュースでよく使われます。
〜かどうかを確認する ascertain whether、ascertain if、ascertain that の形で、ある情報が正しいかどうかを確かめるときに使います。
