  形容詞

  物や行動が、お金・時間・努力などを使うだけの価値を持っていることを表します。多くの場合、be worth ... の形で使います。

使い方

• worth は名詞の前に置きにくい

  worth は普通、a worth book のように名詞の前には置かず、The book is worth reading. のように be worth ... の形で使います。名詞の前に置くなら valuable book や worthwhile book が自然です。

• worth doing の形を覚える

  「〜する価値がある」は worth to do ではなく、worth doing を使います。例：It is worth trying.「試してみる価値がある」。

• worth it は会話でよく使う

  worth it は「それだけの価値がある」「やる意味がある」という便利な表現です。努力・時間・お金に対してよく使います。

よくある間違い

• 誤: This movie is worth to watch.

  正: This movie is worth watching.

  worth の後に動詞を置く場合は、to不定詞ではなく -ing 形を使います。

• 誤: It worths a lot of money.

  正: It is worth a lot of money.

  worth は動詞としては普通使いません。「〜の価値がある」は be worth ... とします。

• 誤: The trip was very worth.

  正: The trip was well worth it.

  worth を強めるときは very worth よりも well worth や really worth it が自然です。
