使い方

  • worst は bad の最上級

    bad は「悪い」、worse は「より悪い」、worst は「最も悪い」です。2つを比べるなら worse、3つ以上や全体の中でいちばん悪いなら worst を使うのが基本です。

  • 形容詞では the worst が多い

    「最悪の〜」と言うときは、the worst day や the worst result のように the を付けることが多いです。ただし、my worst fear のように所有格がある場合は the を付けません。

  • at worst の意味

    at worst は「最悪の場合」という意味の決まった表現です。悪い可能性の中でいちばん悪い場合を考えるときに使います。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: This is more worse than yesterday.

    正: This is worse than yesterday.

    worse は already「より悪い」という比較級なので、more を付けません。

  • 誤: This is the most worst movie I have seen.

    正: This is the worst movie I have seen.

    worst は最上級なので、most を前に付ける必要はありません。

    than を使って2つを比べるときは、通常 worst ではなく比較級の worse を使います。
