  strict は「規則に厳しい」という意味が中心です。stern は表情・声・態度が「厳しく、甘くない」感じを表し、少し重い印象があります。

• 形容詞と名詞で意味が大きく違う

  形容詞の stern は「厳しい」、名詞の stern は「船尾」です。文脈で判断します。a stern teacher なら「厳しい先生」、the stern of a ship なら「船の後ろ」です。

  stern は形容詞なので、主語を説明するときは a を付けません。
