使い方

• resistance to の形がよく使われる

  『〜への抵抗・反対・耐性』と言うときは resistance to を使います。例: resistance to change（変化への抵抗）、resistance to antibiotics（抗生物質への耐性）。

• 基本は不可算名詞

  一般的な『抵抗』『反対』『抵抗力』の意味では、a resistance とはあまり言いません。ただし科学で『a resistance of 10 ohms（10オームの抵抗）』のように数値と一緒に使うことがあります。

• resistance と opposition の違い

  opposition は『反対』を広く表す語です。resistance は、ただ反対するだけでなく、押し返す・受け入れないという強いニュアンスがあります。

よくある間違い

• 誤: They have a strong resistance against change.

  正: They have strong resistance to change.

  『〜への抵抗』は resistance to が自然です。against も文脈によっては使えますが、change には to が一般的です。

• 誤: This medicine creates resistance for bacteria.

  正: This medicine can create resistance in bacteria.

  『細菌に耐性を生じさせる』は create resistance in bacteria のように in を使うと自然です。

• 誤: His resistance is very high to cold.

  正: He has a high resistance to cold.

  人の性質として言う場合は have a high resistance to ...（〜への抵抗力が高い）が自然です。
