先送りにする すぐに決めたり行動したりせず、後で行うことにする。少し硬めの表現で、仕事や公式な場面でもよく使われる。

postpone は他動詞なので、普通は postpone the meeting のように後ろに目的語を置く。『会議が延期された』と言うときは受け身で The meeting was postponed. と言う。

postpone doing の形
『〜することを延期する』は postpone doing が自然。postpone to do は普通使わない。例: postpone making a decision（決定を先送りする）。

put off との違い
put off も『延期する』という意味だが、postpone のほうがやや正式で、会議・イベント・発表などに使いやすい。put off は日常会話でよく使われる。
