使い方

  • in the middle of の形が多い

    場所にも時間にも使えます。in the middle of the room は「部屋の真ん中に」、in the middle of the movie は「映画の途中で」という意味です。

  • center との違い

    middle は「端と端の間のあたり」を広く表し、厳密な一点でなくても使えます。center は「中心点」に近く、より正確な中央を指すことが多いです。

  • middle は形容詞として名詞の前に置く

    「真ん中の席」は the middle seat のように言います。a seat middle とは言いません。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: I am middle of the project.

    正: I am in the middle of the project.

    「〜の途中で」は in the middle of ... が自然です。in と of が必要です。

  • 誤: Please sit on the middle of the room.

    正: Please sit in the middle of the room.

    部屋などの空間の中の位置を表すときは、ふつう in the middle of を使います。

  • 誤: He is a middle brother.

    正: He is the middle brother.

    兄弟姉妹の中で「真ん中の子」と特定して言う場合は the middle brother/sister/child が自然です。
