使い方

• internal は「外から見えない中側」

  internal は物理的な内側だけでなく、会社・国・心などの『中』にも使えます。external は反対に『外部の』という意味です。

• inside との違い

  inside は場所を直接表す日常的な語で、『箱の中に』のように使います。internal は形容詞で、やや説明的・専門的に『内部の性質を持つ』ことを表します。例: internal organs（内臓）、internal rules（内部規則）。

よくある間違い

• 誤: This file is internal use only.

  正: This file is for internal use only.

  『社内使用のみ』は for internal use only が自然な決まり表現です。

• 誤: The internal of the box is blue.

  正: The inside of the box is blue.

  internal は普通、形容詞として名詞の前に置きます。箱の『内側』という名詞には inside が自然です。

• 誤: We discussed about internal problems.

  正: We discussed internal problems.

  discuss は他動詞なので、通常 about を付けずに目的語を直接続けます。
