使い方

物理的にも抽象的にも使える
grasp は「ロープを握る」のように手でつかむ意味にも、「考えを理解する」のように頭でつかむ意味にも使えます。日本語の「把握する」に近い感覚です。

理解する意味の grasp は understand より少し知的・説明的に聞こえます。日常会話でも使えますが、授業、仕事、説明文で特によく使われます。

「〜の理解」は “a grasp of ...” と言います。例: a good grasp of English「英語をよく理解していること」。
