使い方

• deal with は「〜に対処する」

  日本語の「扱う」に近いですが、特に問題・状況・人に対応する意味でよく使います。deal a problem ではなく deal with a problem と言います。

• a good deal と a great deal of

  a good deal は「お得な取引・買い物」、a great deal of は「かなり多くの〜」です。形が似ていますが意味が違うので注意しましょう。

• 過去形・過去分詞は dealt

  deal は不規則動詞で、過去形も過去分詞も dealt です。発音は /delt/ です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: We must deal this issue soon.

  正: We must deal with this issue soon.

  「問題に対処する」は deal with + 問題・状況 の形にします。with が必要です。

• 誤: Yesterday he dealed the cards.

  正: Yesterday he dealt the cards.

  deal の過去形は dealed ではなく dealt です。

• 誤: I bought this phone in a cheap deal.

  正: I got this phone for a good deal.
