• 基本形は compatible with

  「〜と互換性がある」「〜と相性がよい」は、ふつう compatible with ... と言います。compatible to は一般的ではありません。

• 物にも人にも考えにも使える

  computer is compatible with software のような機械の互換性だけでなく、people are compatible、ideas are compatible のように人や考えにも使えます。

• 日本語の『コンパチ』より広い

  日本語では『互換性』の意味で使われることが多いですが、英語の compatible は『相性がよい』『両立できる』という意味でもよく使います。

よくある間違い

• 誤: This software is compatible to Windows.

  正: This software is compatible with Windows.

  compatible の後ろはふつう with を使います。

• 誤: They have compatible.

  正: They are compatible.

  compatible は形容詞なので、状態を表すときは be compatible の形にします。

• 誤: My laptop can compatible with this monitor.

  compatible は動詞ではありません。can compatible とは言えず、be compatible with を使います。
