capable
〜する能力がある 必要な力・知識・技術があって、何かをすることができるという意味。よく「be capable of doing」の形で使います。
有能な、能力のある 人が仕事や役割をうまくこなせる、信頼できるという意味。名詞の前に置いて「a capable person」のように使えます。
〜しかねない、〜する可能性がある 特に悪いこと・意外なことをする力や可能性があるという意味で、「be capable of + 名詞／動名詞」の形で使われます。

使い方

capable of doing の形が基本
「〜することができる」と言うときは、capable の後に不定詞 to do ではなく、of + 動名詞を使うのが一般的です。例: capable of speaking, capable of learning.

able との違い
able は「できる」を広く表す基本語です。capable は「その能力・実力がある」というニュアンスが少し強く、仕事や技術についてよく使われます。

人にも物にも使える
capable は人だけでなく、機械やシステムにも使えます。例: a camera capable of shooting in 4K（4Kで撮影できるカメラ）。
よくある間違い
