attach
取り付ける、くっつける 物を別の物に固定したり、くっつけたりすること。接着剤、ひも、ねじなどで付ける場合にも使います。
添付する メールやメッセージに、ファイル・写真・書類などを加えて送れるようにすること。
結び付ける、関連付ける ある考え、意味、責任、感情などを何かに関係させること。受け身で「関係している」「付随している」という意味にもなります。

attach A to B の形が基本
「AをBに取り付ける・添付する」は attach A to B と言います。例: attach a file to an email（メールにファイルを添付する）。

be attached to は意味が広い
be attached to は「〜に取り付けられている」「〜に添付されている」「〜に愛着がある」「〜に配属されている」など、文脈によって意味が変わります。

メールでは attached をよく使う
ビジネスメールでは Please find the attached file.（添付ファイルをご確認ください）や I have attached the document.（書類を添付しました）がよく使われます。
よくある間違い

誤: I attached the email the file.
正: I attached the file to the email.

attach は give のように attach someone something とは普通言いません。何に添付するのかを to で示します。

attach は古フランス語の attachier（固定する、結び付ける）に由来し、英語でも「物理的に付ける」意味から「関係や感情を結び付ける」意味へ広がりました。
