使い方

• 問題には tackle、物理的に相手を止める時にも tackle

  tackle a problem は「問題に取り組む」、tackle a player は「選手にタックルする」です。文脈によって意味が大きく変わります。

• solve との違い

  solve は「解決する」という結果に焦点があります。tackle は「解決しようとして取り組む」という行動の開始や努力に焦点があります。

• 名詞の tackle は不可算名詞になることが多い

  釣り道具の意味では fishing tackle のように使い、通常 a tackle とは言いません。一方、スポーツの一回のタックルは a tackle と数えられます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: We tackled the problem completely.

  正: We solved the problem completely.

  tackle は「取り組む」という行動を表します。「完全に解決した」と結果を言いたい場合は solve が自然です。ただし We tackled the problem successfully. は可能です。

• 誤: He bought a fishing tackle.

  正: He bought some fishing tackle.

  釣り道具全体を表す tackle は不可算名詞として使うのが普通なので、a を付けません。

• 誤: I tackled to the issue yesterday.

  正: I tackled the issue yesterday.

  tackle は他動詞として使い、目的語を直接続けます。通常 tackle to the issue とは言いません。
