使い方

• special to me と special for me

  感情的に「私にとって大切だ」と言うときは special to me が自然です。何かが自分のために特別に用意された場合は special for me も使えます。例: This song is special to me. / They prepared a special meal for me.

• special と particular の違い

  special は「普通より大切・珍しい・特別扱い」という気持ちが入ります。particular は「特定の、ある1つの」という意味で、感情的な特別さは必ずしもありません。

• 名詞の special

  restaurant special や TV special のように、名詞として「特別メニュー」「特別番組」という意味でよく使われます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: This song is special for me.

  正: This song is special to me.

  「自分にとって大切・思い出がある」という意味では special to me が自然です。special for me は「私のために特別に用意された」という意味になりやすいです。

• 誤: She is a very special person for me.

  正: She is a very special person to me.

  人が自分にとって大切だと言うときも、special to me が自然です。

• 誤: We need special informations.
