residence は「住居」「居住地」という意味で、書類・法律・不動産・ニュースなどでよく使われます。友人との会話では I live in Tokyo. や My home is in Tokyo. のほうが自然です。

residence は「住む場所」または「住んでいる状態」です。resident は「住んでいる人、居住者」です。例: a residence permit は「居住許可」、a local resident は「地元住民」。
