pattern と聞いたら、花柄やチェック柄の布を思い浮かべると「模様、柄」の意味を覚えやすいです。

「模様」と「傾向」の両方に使える
pattern は服や壁紙の「柄」だけでなく、行動やデータに見られる「くり返しの型・傾向」にも使います。日本語の「パターン」に近いですが、英語では具体的な模様にもよく使います。

pattern of behavior のように「〜のパターン」と言うときは of がよく使われます。データや結果の中にパターンが見える場合は a pattern in the data のように in も自然です。

動詞では patterned がよく出る
動詞 pattern は、日常会話では受け身や形容詞的な patterned with flowers（花柄の）の形でよく見ます。
