使い方

• natural と nature の違い

  natural は形容詞で「自然の、自然な」という意味。nature は名詞で「自然、性質」。例えば「自然環境」は natural environment と言い、nature environment とは言わない。

• It is natural to do の形

  「〜するのは自然だ・当然だ」は It is natural to feel worried. のように natural の後に to不定詞をよく使う。

  名詞の a natural は「天性の才能がある人」という意味で、at を使って a natural at sports のように言うことが多い。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I like nature food.

  正: I like natural food.

  food を説明する形容詞は natural。「自然」は名詞 nature なので、ここでは使わない。

  正: It is natural to feel tired after work.

  natural の後に to不定詞を使う場合、that は不要。that節を使うなら It is natural that you feel tired after work. と言える。
