使い方

• justification for の形が多い

  「〜の正当な理由」「〜の根拠」と言うときは justification for ... がよく使われます。例: justification for the decision（その決定の根拠）。

• reason より硬めの語

  reason は一般的な「理由」ですが、justification は「正しいと認められる理由」「説明して正当化すること」という意味が強く、ビジネス・法律・議論でよく使われます。

• excuse との違い

  excuse は「言い訳」という否定的な響きになることがあります。justification は、相手を納得させるための正式な理由や根拠を表すことが多いです。

よくある間違い

• 誤: There is no justification to treating people unfairly.

  正: There is no justification for treating people unfairly.

  「〜する正当な理由」は no justification for doing の形が自然です。to ではなく for を使います。

• 誤: He made a justification his mistake.

  正: He gave a justification for his mistake.

  justification は名詞なので、目的語を直接続けず、for を使います。動詞は give, provide, offer などが自然です。

• 誤: I need to justification my choice.

  正: I need to justify my choice.

  to の後には動詞の原形が必要です。justification は名詞なので、動詞 justify を使います。
