使い方

• 会話ではほめ言葉としてよく使う

  incredible は本来「信じられない」という意味ですが、日常会話では amazing や wonderful に近く、「すごい」「最高」という肯定的な意味でよく使われます。

• 名詞の前にも be 動詞の後にも置ける

  an incredible story（信じられない話）のように名詞の前で使えます。また、The story is incredible.（その話は信じられない）のように be 動詞の後にも使えます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: It was an incredible delicious cake.

  正: It was an incredibly delicious cake.

  delicious という形容詞を強めるときは、形容詞 incredible ではなく副詞 incredibly を使います。

• 誤: The movie was very incredible.

  正: The movie was incredible.

  incredible 自体が強い意味を持つため、very を付けるよりそのまま使うほうが自然です。強調するなら absolutely incredible が自然です。
