ID との違い
identification は正式な語で、『本人確認』という行為にも『身分証明書』にも使えます。日常会話では身分証明書を短く ID と言うことが多いです。

identification of ... は『〜の識別・特定』、identification with ... は『〜との同一視・〜への共感』という意味になります。前置詞で意味が変わるので注意しましょう。

数えられない名詞として使うことが多い
『本人確認』や『識別』という意味では通常不可算名詞です。ただし『a form of identification』のように、証明書の種類を表す言い方はよく使われます。
