• 手書き、手で書くこと

使い方

• 数えられない名詞として使うことが多い

  handwriting は通常、不可算名詞です。個人の筆跡を言うときは “your handwriting,” “her handwriting” のように所有格を付けます。“a handwriting” とはあまり言いません。

• by hand との違い

  handwriting は『手書き文字・筆跡』という名詞です。『手で書く』という動作を表すなら “write by hand” が自然です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: Please write it by handwriting.

  正: Please write it by hand.

  『手で書く』という動作には by handwriting ではなく by hand を使います。handwriting は名詞で『手書き文字・筆跡』です。
