  動詞

  大事な仕事・責任・物などを、信頼して他の人に預けることを表します。trust より「責任を預ける」感じが強いです。

使い方

• entrust A to B

  entrust the task to her のように「AをBに任せる」の形で使えます。A は仕事・物・人・秘密などです。

• entrust B with A

  entrust her with the task のように「BにAを任せる」の形も自然です。with の後には任せる内容が来ます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I entrusted him my bag.

  正: I entrusted my bag to him.

  entrust は entrust A to B、または entrust B with A の形にします。

• 誤: I entrust him because he is honest.

  正: I trust him because he is honest.

  単に「信頼する」は trust。何かを任せる・預ける時に entrust を使います。
