使い方

• destroy との違い

  dismantle は「部品に分けて取り外す」という意味が中心で、必ずしも壊して使えなくするとは限りません。destroy は「破壊する」で、元の形や機能を失わせる意味が強いです。

• 比喩的な使い方

  dismantle barriers, dismantle a system, dismantle discrimination のように、制度・障壁・差別などを少しずつ取り除く意味でもよく使われます。

• 他動詞として使う

  dismantle はふつう目的語が必要です。dismantle a machine, dismantle a tent のように「何を解体するのか」を続けます。

よくある間違い

  dismantle は他動詞なので、前置詞 into を入れずに目的語を直接続けます。
