使い方

• study と learn の違い

  study は『勉強する・調べる』という行動に焦点があります。learn は『学んで身につける・覚える』という結果に焦点があります。例: I studied French for two years, but I didn't learn much.（2年間フランス語を勉強したが、あまり身につかなかった。）

• 研究を表す名詞 study

  名詞の study は、学術的な『研究・調査』を表すときによく使います。a study shows that ... は『ある研究は〜を示している』という意味です。

• 科目名の前に about は不要なことが多い

  学校の科目や言語を勉強する場合は study English, study history のように直接目的語を置くのが自然です。study about は、ある話題について広く調べる場合に使われることがあります。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I study about English every day.

  正: I study English every day.

  英語という科目・言語を勉強する場合、通常 about は入れません。

• 誤: I'm study for the test.

  正: I'm studying for the test.

  be動詞の後に動詞の原形 study は置けません。進行形は studying を使います。

• 誤: I learned English for three hours last night.

  正: I studied English for three hours last night.

  3時間『勉強した』という行動を言うなら study が自然です。learn は『身につけた』という結果を表しやすい語です。
