海峡 2つの海や大きな水域をつなぐ、幅の狭い水路を指します。地名では Strait of Dover「ドーバー海峡」のように使います。

使い方

  • straight と混同しない

    strait は「海峡」や、複数形で「苦境」。straight は「まっすぐな、正直な」という意味で、発音は同じ /streɪt/ です。つづりに gh があるほうが straight です。

  • 苦境の意味では複数形が普通

    「苦境にある」は in straits または in dire straits と言います。日常的には in trouble や in a difficult situation もよく使われます。
