sponsus / sponsa : 約束された人、婚約者、夫・妻
Latin の sponsus（男性）と sponsa（女性）は「約束する」を意味する spondere に関係し、古フランス語を通じて英語 spouse になりました。結婚の「誓い」や「約束」と関係が深い語です。
