使い方

  • protective of + 人

    人を守ろうとする気持ちを表すときは、よく「be protective of someone」の形を使います。例: She is protective of her children.（彼女は子どもたちを守ろうとする。）

  • protective + 名詞

    物理的に守るための物には「protective clothing」「protective gear」「protective cover」のように、名詞の前に置いて使います。

  • 良い意味にも悪い意味にもなる

    protective は基本的に「守る」という良い意味ですが、文脈によっては「過保護な」「干渉しすぎる」に近い印象になることがあります。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: She is protective for her son.

    正: She is protective of her son.

    人を守ろうとする態度には、通常「protective of + 人」を使います。

  • 誤: Please wear a protective.

    正: Please wear protective clothing.

    protective は形容詞なので、単独で名詞のようには使いません。「protective clothing」「protective gloves」など名詞を続けます。
