使い方

• percentage と percent の違い

  percentage は「割合」という名詞です。percent は 30 percent や 30% のように数字と一緒に使うことが多いです。例: The percentage is high. / 30 percent of people agreed.

• percentage point に注意

  10%から15%に増えた場合は「5 percentage points 増えた」と言います。「5 percent 増えた」だと、10%の5%分だけ増えたという意味にもなり、正確な統計表現では違いがあります。

• a percentage of + 複数名詞

  A percentage of students などの形では、動詞は後ろの名詞に合わせて複数になることがよくあります。例: A high percentage of students are interested in music.

よくある間違い

• 誤: The percentage is 30 percents.

  正: The percentage is 30 percent.

  percent は数字の後では通常、複数形にしません。30 percents ではなく 30 percent と言います。
