使い方

• 「板」と「人の集まり」の両方に使う

  panel は物理的な「平らな板」だけでなく、panel of experts「専門家の一団」や panel discussion「パネル討論」のように人のグループにも使います。

• 討論に参加する人には on a panel

  討論会などで「パネルの一員として出る」は speak on a panel や be on a panel と言います。in a panel とはあまり言いません。

• control panel と dashboard

  control panel は機械やソフトウェアの操作部分全般に使えます。dashboard は車の計器盤や、データを一覧表示する画面によく使います。

よくある間違い

• 誤: She joined in a panel about health.

  正: She was on a panel about health.

  討論者の一人として参加する場合は on a panel が自然です。

• 誤: The panel discussed about the problem.

  正: The panel discussed the problem.

  discuss は他動詞なので、目的語の前に about は不要です。

• 誤: I bought a solar paneler.

  正: I bought a solar panel.

  solar panel は「太陽光パネル」という名詞句です。paneler は通常この意味では使いません。
