あそこに、向こうに 話し手と聞き手から少し離れた場所を指すときに使います。指をさしながら場所を示す場面でよく使います。
あちらの方に 正確な場所ではなく、少し離れた方向やエリアをざっくり示すときにも使えます。

使い方

  • 少し離れた場所

    over there は here『ここ』より遠く、there『そこ・あそこ』より少し指し示す感じが強い表現です。

  • 指さしと一緒に使いやすい

    店や駅で場所を示すとき、指や視線で方向を示しながら over there と言うと自然です。

  • 前置詞を足さない

    over there 自体が場所を表す副詞句なので、at over there や in over there とは普通言いません。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: The shop is at over there.

    正: The shop is over there.

    over there は場所を表すので、at は不要です。

  • 誤: Please go to over there.

    正: Please go over there.

    over there は副詞句なので、to を入れずに go over there と言います。

  • 誤: This is over there.

    正: That is over there.

    over there は離れた場所なので、近くの this より that と相性がよいことが多いです。
