計画の概要
outline
概要、あらすじ 文章、計画、発表などの大事な点だけを短くまとめたもの。細かい説明の前に全体像を示すときに使います。
輪郭、外形 物や人の外側の線、または遠くから見える大まかな形を表します。
概要を説明する、要点を述べる 計画、考え、問題などについて、細かい部分ではなく主な点を説明することです。

outline は「概要」なので、in detail「詳しく」と一緒に使うと少し不自然な場合があります。詳しく説明してほしいときは plan や idea など具体的な名詞を使うと自然です。

使い方

名詞では「全体の大まかな形」または「要点のまとめ」
outline は、見た目の「輪郭」にも、文章や計画の「概要」にも使えます。文脈で意味を判断します。

動詞では細部よりも要点を示す
outline a plan は「計画を詳しく説明する」ではなく、「計画の主な点を説明する」という意味です。詳しく述べる場合は explain in detail などを使います。

日本語の「アウトライン」とほぼ同じだが範囲が広い
英語の outline は、レポートの構成メモだけでなく、人影や山の輪郭にも自然に使えます。
