• member of が基本形

  「〜のメンバー」は a member of the club のように of を使うのが最も自然です。team member や club member のように名詞の前に置いて使うこともあります。

• 人にも物にも使える

  日常会話では主に人に使いますが、数学や分類では「集合の要素」「グループの一部」という意味で物や概念にも使えます。

• membership との違い

  member は「会員・メンバーという人」、membership は「会員であること・会員資格・会員数」を表します。

よくある間違い

• 誤: She is a member in the tennis club.

  正: She is a member of the tennis club.

  「クラブの会員」は通常 a member of the club と言います。in も文脈によって不可能ではありませんが、所属を表す基本表現は of です。

• 誤: I am a member of tennis club.

  正: I am a member of the tennis club.

  特定のクラブを指す場合は the tennis club のように冠詞が必要です。

• 誤: He joined as a new member to the team.
