使い方

• landscape と scenery の違い

  landscape は数えられる名詞として a beautiful landscape のように使え、広い土地の見た目や特徴を表します。scenery は普通は不可算名詞で、beautiful scenery のように使い、旅行先などで見る自然の景色全体を表します。

• 比喩的な landscape

  business landscape、political landscape、media landscape のように使うと、「その分野の状況・勢力図・全体の環境」という意味になります。ニュースやビジネス英語でよく使われます。

• landscape mode は横向き

  スマホ、パソコン、印刷設定では landscape mode が「横向き」、portrait mode が「縦向き」です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: We saw a beautiful scenery.

  正: We saw a beautiful landscape.

  scenery は普通、不可算名詞なので a scenery とは言いません。a を使いたい場合は landscape や view が自然です。

  正: Please print this in landscape mode.
