  名詞

  何かをしようと思っている気持ちや計画を表す名詞です。特に「心の中で決めている目的」という意味で使います。

使い方

• よく使う形

  intention は often “intention to do” または “intention of doing” の形で使います。例: an intention to leave、no intention of leaving。

• intention と plan の違い

  plan は具体的な予定や手順を強く表します。intention は「そうするつもり」という心の中の目的に焦点があります。

• 丁寧・少し硬めの語

  日常会話では “I want to...” や “I’m going to...” のほうが自然な場合もあります。intention は説明、謝罪、仕事、文章読解などでよく使われます。

よくある間違い

• 誤: My intention is help you.

  正: My intention is to help you.

  intention の後で「〜することが目的だ」と言うときは、to + 動詞の原形を使います。

• 誤: She had no intention for quitting her job.

  正: She had no intention of quitting her job.

  “no intention of doing” が自然な形です。“for quitting” はこの意味では不自然です。
