使い方

• 「方向」は singular、「道順」は plural が多い

  方角や向きは direction と単数でよく使います。一方、目的地までの行き方は directions と複数形で言うのが自然です。例: in this direction（この方向に）、give me directions（道順を教える）。

• in the direction of の形

  「〜の方へ」は in the direction of ... がよく使われます。toward より少し説明的で、道案内や描写で自然です。

• direction と instruction の違い

  direction は道順・進む向き・大まかな指示に使えます。instruction は手順や操作方法など、より具体的な「説明・指示」に使うことが多いです。

よくある間違い

• 誤: Please tell me the direction to the station.

  正: Please give me directions to the station.

  目的地までの「道順」は英語では directions と複数形にするのが自然です。

• 誤: Go to the direction of the park.

  正: Go in the direction of the park.

  「〜の方向へ」は go in the direction of ... と言います。to the direction は不自然です。

• 誤: The project needs a new directions.

  正: The project needs a new direction.

  「新しい方向性」という抽象的な意味では、ここでは単数形 direction が自然です。a の後に複数形 directions は置けません。
