使い方

  • friend との違い

    classmate は「同じクラスの人」という関係を表します。仲がよいとは限りません。friend は「友達」なので、同じクラスでなくても使えます。

  • schoolmate との違い

    classmate は同じクラスの人、schoolmate は同じ学校の人です。classmate のほうが範囲がせまい言葉です。

よくある間違い

  • 誤: He is my same classmate.

    正: He is my classmate.

    classmate だけで「同じクラスの人」という意味があるので、same を付ける必要はありません。

  • 誤: I have many classmate.

    正: I have many classmates.

    many の後には数えられる名詞の複数形を使うので classmates にします。

  • 誤: She is classmate of me.

    正: She is my classmate.

    日本語の「私のクラスメート」は英語では my classmate が自然です。
