使い方

• blame の基本パターン

  人を責めるときは blame someone for something（何かのことで人を責める）を使います。例: She blamed him for the error.

• 原因を言うときの形

  「AをBのせいにする」は blame A on B と言えます。また blame B for A も可能です。例: They blamed the traffic for the delay. / They blamed the delay on the traffic.

• be to blame

  be to blame は「責任がある」「悪い」という意味の決まった表現です。例: I was to blame. は「私に責任があった」という意味です。

• blame と fault の違い

  blame は「責める行為・責任を負わせること」に焦点があります。fault は「過失・落ち度」そのものを表すことが多いです。日常会話では It's my fault. が自然で、It's my blame. とは普通言いません。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I blame to him for the mistake.

  正: I blame him for the mistake.

  blame の直後に人を置くとき、to は不要です。blame someone for something の形にします。

• 誤: She blamed the delay for the rain.

  正: She blamed the delay on the rain.

  「遅れを雨のせいにした」は blame A on B の形で、Aに結果、Bに原因を置きます。

• 誤: It is my blame.

  正: It is my fault.

  「それは私のせいです」は英語では It's my fault. が自然です。blame を使うなら I am to blame. と言えます。
