使い方

• belt と seat belt

  腰に巻く普通の「ベルト」は belt、安全のために座席で締めるものは seat belt と言うのが自然です。ただし文脈が車や飛行機なら belt だけで seat belt を指すこともあります。

• wear, put on, fasten の違い

  身に着けている状態は wear a belt、着ける動作は put on a belt、しっかり締める動作は fasten a belt または tighten a belt と言います。

• 動詞の belt はくだけた表現

  「強く打つ」という意味の belt は会話的・くだけた表現です。正式な文では hit や strike の方が無難です。

よくある間違い
