〜について話す ある話題について会話したり、説明したりするときに使います。about の後ろには話題を置きます。
〜のことを話題にする 友達、学校、仕事、問題などを話題として取り上げるときにも使います。

使い方

about の後は話題
talk about school、talk about the test のように、about の後ろには話す内容や話題を置きます。

相手は with / to で足す
誰と話すかを言うときは talk with my friend about ... や talk to my teacher about ... の形にします。

discuss との違い
discuss はやや硬く、話し合う意味が強い語です。talk about は日常会話で広く使えます。
よくある間違い

正: We talked about our homework.
話題を表すときは about が必要です。

正: Let's talk with the teacher about it.
about の後ろには話題を置きます。相手は with や to で表します。

discuss は about を付けずに目的語を直接続けます。talk about とは形が違います。
