一連のもの、連続 出来事・行動・物などが、順番に続いているまとまりを表す。よく「a series of ...（一連の〜）」の形で使う。
シリーズ、連続番組・連続作品 テレビ番組、本、映画、ゲームなどで、同じ登場人物やテーマで続いて作られる作品のまとまり。
連続試合、対戦シリーズ スポーツで、同じ相手や同じ大会内で行われる複数の試合のまとまりを指す。

使い方

単数形も複数形も series
series は単数でも複数でも形が同じ。1つなら「a series」、複数なら「two series」のように言う。

a series of の後は複数名詞がよく来る
「a series of events」「a series of questions」のように、of の後には続いて起こるものや複数のものを置くことが多い。

series と serial の違い
series は名詞で「シリーズ、一連のもの」。serial は形容詞または名詞で「連続の」「連載物」などを表すが、日常では TV series や book series のほうが一般的。
よくある間違い

正: I watched three series last month.
series の複数形も series。serieses とは普通言わない。

誤: I watched a series last night and it has ten episodes, but I only saw one episode.
正: I watched an episode of a series last night.
series は作品全体を指す。1話だけ見た場合は episode を使うと自然。

主語の中心が単数の a series なので、正式には was がよく使われる。ただし会話では questions に引かれて were が使われることもある。
