使い方

resemble の後に to は不要
resemble は他動詞なので、後ろに目的語を直接置きます。日本語の「〜に似ている」に引っ張られて resemble to としないように注意します。

look like より少し硬め
日常会話では look like もよく使われます。resemble はやや書き言葉・説明的な響きがあり、外見だけでなく性質や構造の類似にも使えます。

一時的な見た目より、もともとの類似に使いやすい
resemble は「本質的に似ている」「特徴が似ている」という感じです。一時的な服装や表情については look like の方が自然なことが多いです。

英語の resemble は、中英語期に古フランス語 resembler から入った語です。古フランス語 sembler は「〜のように見える」という意味で、現在の英語の similar と同じく「似ている」という考えと関係があります。
