  representative の短い形。会社・団体・人を代表して対応する人を指します。特に sales rep（営業担当者）の形でよく使います。

使い方

• 略語なので場面に注意

  rep は representative や repetition の略で、会話・仕事・フィットネスでよく使われます。正式な文章では representative や repetition と書くほうが自然な場合があります。

• 意味は文脈で判断する

  sales rep や company rep なら「担当者・代表者」、ten reps や three sets of reps なら「筋トレなどの反復回数」という意味です。

• 議員名の前では Rep. と書くことが多い

  アメリカ英語のニュースでは Rep. Brown のように、Representative の略として使われます。この場合は大文字で始め、ピリオドを付ける表記が一般的です。

よくある間違い

• 誤: I contacted a rep of the company in a formal report.

  正: I contacted a representative of the company in a formal report.

  正式な報告書では略語の rep より representative のほうが丁寧で明確です。

• 誤: I did ten rep at the gym.

  正: I did ten reps at the gym.

  回数が10回なので、複数形 reps を使います。
